The Golden Nugget, established as a 'Gambling Hall' back in 1946, is now the only AAA Four Diamond resort in the downtown area, and it has been for 23 (!) consecutive years. When Stephen Wynn, Las Vegas best known casino entrepreneur, invested in Golden Nugget, Inc. (renamed Mirage Resorts, Inc. in 1991), it was his wish to create a luxurious casino - a resort people would love for more reasons than the obvious (the obvious reason obviously being gaming...). Changing the gambling hall to a Victorian-styled resort did exactly that and was the first sign things were about to change in Las Vegas forever - Stephen Wynn later developed The Mirage, Treasure Island and Bellagio.
The Golden Nugget has over 1,800 standard guest rooms and several 1 and 2-bedroom suites as well as Penthouse suites, spread over all three hotel towers. All rooms are spacious and richly decorated and every floor has a room especially equipped for the handicapped.

The Casino
With the upgrading of the Golden Nugget in 1973, the 5,000 sq. ft. casino was expanded to 36,000 sq. ft. and now offers virtually all of your favorite games such as blackjack, craps, Baccarat, roulette, Pai Gow and Pai Gow Poker, slots, a race and sports book and more.

On the second floor of The Spa Tower is the entryway to the five restaurants The Golden Nugget has to offer:
Stefano's: the Italian restaurant where the waiters sing traditional Italian songs when serving you seafood, pasta and other specialties.
Lillie Langtry's: Cantonese and steaks in favorite traditional and not so traditional dishes.
The Buffet: The traditional Las Vegas all-you-can-eat establishment. Why come up with some weird name when it's this simple. We've been wondering about that, too, yes.
Carson Street Cafe: styled like a European sidewalk cafe it's open 24 hours and serves breakfast, lunch and diner.
California Pizza Kitchen: a lively bistro serving 23 different kinds of 'gourmet pizzas'(we didn't come up with that phrase!), salads and pasta.

The Golden Nugget has no indoor entertainment, but boy, what about the Fremont Street Experience outside? A dazzling canopy with 2.1 million lights and 540,000 watts of stereophonic sound, the hourly shows every night are a must see!

Located near the main lobby, The Gift Boutique offers designer gowns, jewelry, leather items and fashion accessories. The Gift Shop (don't get those two mixed up!), located across from the Carson Street Cafe, has logo merchandise, casual sportswear, children's wear, toys and other gifts.

The Golden Nugget wouldn't be a The Golden Nugget if they didn't have a gold nugget. And do they! On continuous display is The Hand of Faith, the largest on display in the world, measuring 46 centimeters and weighing 61 pounds, 11 ounces (just over 27 kilograms). It can be seen near the Grand Entrance, together with several other large nuggets. It's been there since 1981 and the fact that it's still there means you won't have to try stealing it!
