Stretching some 1,000 feet along Las Vegas Boulevard South and profiling itself as 'The Entertainment Center of Las Vegas' and 'The Alternative for Grown-Ups', The Riviera is one of the eyecatchers on the northern part of the famed Las Vegas 'Strip', with the most prominent part the blue, richly neon-decorated front.
When it first opened it's doors in 1955 (ribbon-cutting performed by the extravagant pianist Liberace - also the first headliner at the Riviera) construction had cost $10 million dollars - mere petty cash compared to the resorts opening on the Strip these days. The Riviera was then a remarkable venue, being the first high-rise hotel (9 stories). Over the years, the Riviera has been through quite some expansions and changes, the latest major ones being the Monaco Tower (1988; $28 million dollars) and adding 70,000 square feet to the casino in 1990.
The Riviera now has 5 towers:
Monte Carlo Tower (220 deluxe rooms, 50 suites, 14 petite suites, 6 one-bedroom and 3 two-bedroom penthouses);
Monaco Tower (901 deluxe rooms, 43 petite suites, 2 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom penthouses);
Mediterranean Tower, North (372 deluxe rooms, 3 suites, 7 petite suites and 1 honeymoon suite);
Mediterranean Tower, South (147 deluxe rooms, 18 suites and 14 petite suites);
San Remo Tower (230 deluxe rooms and 6 suites).
