The Hotel

Proclaiming itself as being 'The Place Las Vegans Call Home', this Coast Resorts casino is located about a mile west of The Strip and I-15. It opened it's Spanish styled resort back in 1986, but the huge succes called for a quick expansion in 1988, doubling the size of the structure, adding more casino space, restaurants, a 72-lane bowling center while another expansion in 1990 brought the total number of rooms to 750.back

The Casino

The casino offers a wide range of games: Blackjack, Craps, Roulette, Baccarat, Pai-Gow Poker, a Keno lounge and more than 2,100 slots, video poker and video keno machines. Furthermore they're kind Big on Bingo: with ten sessions daily from 8am until 2am, Bonanza Bingo seven times a day (with progressive jackpots) and a 10pm session featuring pay-outs up to $2,000 in regular Bingo play. Seems like plenty of Bingo to us!back

Restaurants

Just as The Orleans (one of Coast Resorts other properties), the Gold Coast is not on the Strip and your dining choices are more limited than elsewhere; they still do offer 6 different restaurants, so we're pretty sure you don't have to starve (you may if you must, but you might just as well stay at home then, right). Here's the list:
  • Cortez Room
An informal ('yet warm') atmosphere in which you can have your steak, prime rib or seafood. They offer a full cocktail service and are open from 5pm to 11pm. Reservations are suggested, all major credit cards accepted, and the price indication runs from a mere $6.95 to $24.95. But that's just what it is, an indication...
  • Mediterranean Room
More seafood, but Italian specialty dishes as well. Entrees range from, we said it already, seafood to chicken and milk-fed veal dishes. Again, reservations are suggested (opening hours are from 5pm to 11pm) and all major credit cards are accepted. Price range: $5.95 to $24.95 (indication).
  • Monterey Room
Twenty four-hour coffee shop offering light snacks to complete meals, and Chinese cuisine from noon to 5am. Luncheon specials from $5.95, dinner entrees $5.95 to $15.95 (indication). AMCCA. That's short for: all major credit cards accepted. Darn, now we still typed it all...
  • Gold Coast Buffet
A lot of hot and cold food for breakfast lunch and dinner. Breakfast hours from 7am to 10.30am ($3.95), lunch 11am to 3pm ($5.95), dinner 4pm to 10pm ($8.45), Sunday Brunch from 8am to 3pm ($7.95) and on Friday there's the Seafood Buffet from 4pm to 10 pm ($11.95). All prices are an indication and subject to change, AMCCA.
  • Kate's Corner
If you can't stand the heat... go get an icecream. Banana Splits, sundaes, frozen yogurt, and even sugar-free yogurt. Open 7am to midnight Sunday thru Thursday and 7am until 1am on Friday and Saturday.
  • Terrible Mike's
Whether you're in a hurry to go somewhere else or back to the casino, a fast-food restaurant is the place to go. Never mind the cholesterol, worry about that when you're back home! Hot Dogs, burgers and sandwiches are available from 10am to midnight. back

  • Entertainment

The Gold Coast has two lounges for entertainment: the east lounge and, yes, the west lounge. Neither lounge has a minimum or a cover charge. While there's Karaoke nightly in the west lounge from 9pm to 3am, the east lounge offers country & western, contemporary, rock and jazz.
The Gold Coast Dance Hall/Showroom is home to 'The Original Tribute to Patsy Cline' (starring the Jordanairs and Sharon Hayes), which can be seen nightly at 8pm, except Tuesday. When there isn't any headliner entertainment, the dance hall features dance music (lessons available for free) from Latin Big Band to Classic Big Band and Rock & Roll.
More entertainment can be found in the twin theatres showing first-run movies, enjoying THX Dolby Digital sound. Special priced matinees run until 6pm.back

    Shopping

In spite of all the stuff you can do at the Gold Coast, shopping is not one of them. Ofcourse, there's your basic gift shop with souvenirs and logo merchandise, and yes, they're open 24 hours a day, but that's it. And we're not going to spend another word on it. If you want to go shopping, go to the Strip or the Mall. Then again, you might like the Gold Coast just because it isn't a mall.back>

    Other amenities

A couple of things we haven't mentioned thus far:
  • The pool. With waterfalls, spa and tropical bar.
  • The 10,000 square-foot ballrom can accommodate up to 600 people for meetings, parties and conventions.
  • Free parking as well as parking garages.
  • The Complimentary Shuttle! The shuttle will bring you from Gold Coast to Barbary Coast (dead-center on the Strip!) and The Orleans, which is located on Tropicana Avenue.back
